Adult Training Facility |
The adult Training Facility at Royer-Greaves School for Blind, licensed in 1990, operates in accordance with the Department of Public Welfare's 2390 regulations.
Each individual is encouraged to participate in their Multi-Disciplinary Team meeting to discuss their program. An Individual Plan (IPP) is then developed based upon the recommendations from the meeting. The goals and objectives of the IPP are designed to help individual develop their maximum level of independence. Skills which had been learned during the individual's student years are addressed to insure mastery.
Individuals attending the Adult Training Facility have the opportunity to participate in the following programs:
- Music Therapy is conducted by the Music Therapist and includes vocal and instrumental music.
- Physical Education and Aquatics are conducted by the Physical Education Teacher and includes physical fitness, team sports and swimming.
- Life Skills are addressed by the Adult Training Instructor and based on the needs of each individual. Communication development, orientation and mobility and Braille skills are focused upon as indicated.
- The Vocational Program occurs both at the Adult training Facility for skill development and at the Chester County Association for the Blind's Sheltered Workshop for Work Experience.
- The Community life program is centered on the activities of the community. This includes using the post office, local library and shopping at local merchants, as well as area malls. Visits to other local organizations such as Senior Centers and Volunteer Groups such as the Lions Club are also incorporated into the program.
The program is conducted by the Adult Training Instructor who is assisted by the Adult Training Aide and is supervised by the Education Supervisor of the School.
Individuals aged twenty-one and older with a mental retardation diagnosis, are eligible for placement in the Adult Training Facility. Both sighted and visually impaired individuals may participate.
Royer-Greaves School for Blind operates the Adult Training Facility for all individuals in a manner appropriate to their learning capabilities and self-esteem. Individuals are evaluated and receive services regardless of race, color, religious creed, handicap, ancestry, national origin, age or sex.
